Quantum Journal

Quantum is an open-access peer-reviewed journal for quantum science and related fields. Quantum is nonprofit and community-run, an effort by researchers and for researchers to make science more open and publishing more transparent and efficient.

I co-founded Quantum in 2016 together with Christian Gogolin and Marcus Huber, and it has since thrived, with over 600 published articles, a team of over fifty academic volunteers in editorial and advisorial roles, and steady finances. We will continue to work towards consolidating Quantum as a prime publishing venue, and helping other research communities launch non-profit journals.

Squid

In recent years we have witnessed a boom in quantum technologies, with hardware breakthroughs, the development of comprehensive software tools, state and federal funding programs, and industry investment at unprecedented levels. As research on quantum technologies keeps evolving at a fast pace, the gap between quantum physics taught in traditional university curricula and current research grows wider. This creates a natural demand for specialized educational events, like summer schools and workshops, which can offer a state-of-the-art overview of different aspects of the field from the perspective of researchers working both in academia and industry.

To address this gap, in 2018 Nuriya Nurgalieva and I founded Squid, an association for knowledge transfer in quantum science and related fields, such as quantum information theory, quantum computing, experimental quantum technologies and quantum foundations.

Our main services are topical summer schools, conferences, workshops, and scientific consulting, offered worldwide. Squid is set up as a nonprofit association, whose membership is open to researchers in academia and industry. Squid can handle both the logistical side of the organisation, including finding sponsors and managing finances, and academic aspects such as drawing the scientific programme of events and working with researchers to prepare the best lecturers. We are flexible and work closely together with universities and industry partners to prepare an event that best suits the local needs.

All our previous and future events can be found on Squid’s website. My recent university teaching materials can also be accessed there.
